Looking forward to 2008

Dear all,

As 2008 approaches, let us take some time to reflect on how the Lord has brought us through 2007.

Below is the summary for the cell sharing on 27 Dec 2007, kindly uploaded for those of you guys who could not make it down. Cheers ^_^.
  • The birth of the Cell - July 2006
  • Started off with 7 people.
  • Current to date active attendance - 10
  • God has indeed blessed the cell spiritually and physically.
  • Although our numbers are still small comparatively, but we look forward to an exciting year of harvest ahead!

Setting out the Path

  • Closely looking back, we can see God's fingerprints on our every walk of life.
  • There is always something to give thanks to God for, and something that God wants us to learn from.
  • They are "sign-posts" placed in our christian walk to point us towards His direction.
  • It is God's desire that we grow in wisdom and to walk closely with Him with every passing year.
  • God's wisdom comes from the lessons that He places in our walk, in which we learn and grow. Many times, through hard lessons that we emerge victorious and closer to Him.

Bible Reference: 1 Timothy 4:11-16

  1. Do not let anyone despise your youth.
  2. Focus on reading the scriptures.
  3. Encouraging believers.
  4. Do not neglect the spiritual gifts God has endowed upon us.
  5. Be accountable to one another.
  6. Stay true and faithful to God.

God will bless the wise and righteous. (Proverbs 9:11) Give glory to God in all that we do, in our every achievements, be it big or small. Honour Him and He will honour us. (Isaiah 42:8-9)

Resolutions

  • How do we walk closer to God? How do we be accountable to our fellow brothers and sisters-in-Christ? How do we ensure that we are not idling in the harvesting fields of God's kingdom?
  • We must set out God-centered resolutions.
  • Factoring in God into our resolution-making process, so that He might grant us the wisdom and strength to accomplish His will for us.
  • Resolutions to God need to be Serious, like a solemn declaration.

Bible Reference: Nehemiah 10:29

  1. God is not only a God of grace and mercy, but also a God of justice and Holy anger.
  2. We need to appreciate God's wrath in order to fully appreciate His loving Grace.
  3. We need to keep our covenant with Him to the best of our abilities.

Setting of Resolutions

  • The right amount.
  • Realistic and achievable
  • Don't slack and set a simple resolution just to get away with your conscience. It is between you and God and no one else!!

Pray through your resolutions before penning them down and ask God for the strength and perservance to run the long race ahead of us.

In our last few moments of reflection as 2007 draws to a close, let us not just get by another year, but build ourselves up to the next level by gearing ourselves with determination to achieve what we have set out to do. I pray that in our reflections, we might learn and grow, and in turn become reflections for Christ.

God Bless all~ In Faith With Love

Adriel

Thots on Worship - Pride and Humility

Excerpts taken from "Times of Refreshing - Tom Kraeuter and other writers"

"Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall." - Proverbs 16:18

Dear all,

I'm sure that in all our endeavours in life, we often face the struggle of pride and humility, especially when we put in so much effort and practice into the perfection of our craft. Sometimes even after attempting something that we have not done before and surprisingly, it turns out pretty good, we catch ourselves saying, "Hey, that wasn't that difficult. I pretty good at this!" Little did we know that we fallen so far short of God's standard of perfection. God uses the meek to shame the proud, and more than often we fall shamefully thinking what a cuckoo we had been.

This is apparently more evident for me serving as part of the worship team. Sometimes, we can have the tendancy to think that we did such a great worship service earlier, how cool was my guitar solo, or vocal solo and all that stuff. But hey, guess what! God could have done that solo way better than we did. When we start to think that way, we would be treading on sinking sand.

God spoke through prophet Isaiah, "I'm the Lord; that is my name! I will not give my glory to another or my praise to idols" (Isaiah 42:8) God takes all glory and there is none for others.

In order for us to be lifted up, we have to be humbled. It varies differently from people to people. Some may be humbled to great lengths while others a little. It all depends on our standing in Christ. "Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up." (James 4:10) In Matt Redman song "Heart Of Worship" that we sung last week, it also reminds us that it's not about us, but all about Jesus.

Jim Cymbala, a pastor of Brooklyn Tabernacle said that if people left a meeting talking about what a wonderful sermon the preacher gave of how beautifully the singers sang, then the meeting has failed. But if people went home saying things like, 'Isn't God good? He met me tonight in such a wonderful way.' it was a good meeting. There was to be NO sharing of the stage with the Lord.

We definitely need that kind of attitude in the Church and also in our lives today. If we ever exhibit a little bit of prideful attitude, we are in danger of being labeled as a child of wicked heart. Let us avoid the destruction that brought Satan to Hell. Stay away from pride and choose to be humble in all that we do.

For His Glory,
Adriel

I'm Back!

Hi all! I came back from Japan since Friday, but because I've not been feeling well (still down with flu and cough at the moment), that's why the delay till now to update everyone.

Just want to thank you all for praying for my journey. It was actually very fortunate because we missed the typhoon that hit Tokyo by just one day apart. Apart from my health, everything went really great, and so would want to thank God for His blessings. :)

Side track a little, I've added a "Recent Posts" links section at the right column. It acts exactly like "Recent Comments", except that it filters out regular posts, e.g. ODB, prayer items. For those you can still access them through the "Labels" section at the bottom right column.

Was thinking this should be good addition to the blog, to keep what everyone wants to share on top of regular posts. ;)

Really looking forward to seeing everyone! Take care in the mean while guys. Important period now for those taking exams and must take extra care not to fall sick! Let's keep each other in prayer. :)

Cell Group Sharing - 11 Oct 2007

Dear faithlove cell,

Decided to upload a short summary of what had been shared and discussed on our group meeting on Thurs 11 Oct 07 for the benefit of those unable to make it and oso for our global friends. =) Do hope these would help you guys in keeping up with the future bible studies.

Topic shared: Sexual Immorality
Bible reference: 1 Corinthians 6:11-20
Shared By: Bro Min Shiung

  • Verse 9-12- There is no difference in the magnitude of sin, but the one and only judgement of sin is death. Being a liar makes you no difference from an adulterer or a murderer. We should know that sinners do NOT inherit the Kingdom of God.
  • Jesus came not for His rights, but for His wrongs. He bore our sins, so that He became the wrong and the sinner, such that all of us could escape that eternal judgement of death in Hell.
  • Everything is permissible but not everything is beneficial. We can always find excuses for sin, but that would only lead us further away from our source above.
  • Food for the stomach, and stomach for food - We live to eat, eat to live.
  • Extremeties in both ends are not good. Gluttony defiles the body, just as sexual immorality defiles the body.
  • Food represents the things of the world, and stomach represents our physical body. We use food to satisfy our bodies. The methods that we use in achieving worldly desires often ends up in sin. God will one day come and admonish both the world and its desires including all our phyical body. (2nd coming)
  • Verse 15-17 - Whoever unites himself with a prostitute defiles his body that is one in Christ Jesus. Having sexual relations with a partner not ordained by God as your spouse leads to sexual immorality and sin.
  • We therefore cannot be in sin and together in the Lord as one. It is either sin and death or life and Jesus as a choice. Both are mutually exclusive.

Questions to ponder:

  • What will your response be when sexual desires comes to you. God place sexual desires in men for the pleasure of procreation, however, we need to be IN control of it, rather than UNDER control by it.
  • What is the line drawn against lust and sexual immorality? -When your thoughts translates into physical actions, that becomes sexual immorality.

We must repent when we sin, needless to say, and God will be faithful to us and forgive us of all unrighteousness. No man is perfect. Even a giant of faith like King David fall prey to sexual immoralities with Basheeba, thus we too have to be watchful over our life.

Scriptural memory verse:

"Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy, and pleasing to God - this is true worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is- His good, pleasing and perfect will." - Romans 12: 1-2

Happy 1st Month!

Wow... isn't it fast? :D

Today marks the first month since the birth of our blog, "In Faith With Love"!

I shouldn't be saying that we "came a long way"; such a saying is better reserved for next year. haha...

More importantly, I want to steal this chance to pray for all that amidst our busy schedule, let us continue to come back to Lord Jesus, and seek His teachings and His Word. He loves us and yearns to spend time with us! Let us not keep Him waiting outside, but instead, invite Him into our hearts to commune with us. :)

Let us find our strength and renewal in Him, be steadfast in our faith, and work with God's everlasting and unfailing love in our everyday life! :D

Pris and her family would also like to thank all those who helped out and those who offered but did not get to help out! Haha, really appreciate all of you guys! A prayer request for this Thurs would be to pray for the cleansing of the house and the sanctification of God's spirit to watch over the residence. Thanks Pple!

Announcement- Strength Needed!

Calling all strong men, and of cuz, any helpful ladies!

Pris will be officially moving her house from Boon Lay back to Woodlands on the 23 Sep 2007, and as her parents are not hiring an external mover, the burden of moving lies on us and anybody who is willing to help out! As the day falls on a Sunday, we'll be heading down to church before commencing the shift. So me and pris would really really appreciate if any of you guys could lend your strength and time as there are alot of items to be shifted and a lack of manpower. However, the event would probably last the whole day, but still, we'll gratefully welcome any help to those who volunteer!! Thanks! Do give your reply by Wednesday so that we can formulate our plans! Merci beaucoup! =)

Never Let Go...

This week has been crazy. It's Saturday today and I'm still in office, expecting another full day's work. Anyway, just this morning, while I was using a web service which randomly shows pictures on the web, I found this series. :D

A lot of times I allow myself to slack spiritually when work increases. I have not been blogging much at my Christian blog if you guys noticed. Anyway, I don't exactly believe in coincidence, since I believe everything is in God's plans. So yeah, as I said, I manage to find this series randomly this morning, and it really touches me a lot.

Never let go, never give up. No matter how tough, how harsh, how impossible, how tiring, let us continue to hold on to the cross. I've noted another thing from the pictures. In this life journey, we're never walking alone. There are a lot of people walking alongside with us, and we can find encouragement in each other, and grow together.

No matter how adverse or desperate your situation is at the moment, trust Lord to set things right. I learnt two days back from a podcast I heard from Holy Trinity Brompton, which is about Martha and Mary.

Luke 10:38-42 (NIV)
At the Home of Martha and Mary

38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!"

41 "Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her."

In the podcast, it was teaching us not be distracted by every day's activities. Life will always be busy with no room for our Lord if we allow so many things to occupy our time. Ultimately, only one thing matters; listening to Jesus.

Let us seek Him first, before we seek other things in life. :)

Ok, time for me to get back to work! God bless all!

Thursday 13 September 2007

Three Good News!

Hello everyone! Tuesday was a day filled with happy events, but I've got no time to share because of intense work commitments. However, here I am today, so here goes! :)

First piece of good news! My cousin Jorina's cyst in her brain is benign! Which in other words, her life is not at risk, and the doctor's decision is to leave it as it is at the moment. Another examination had been scheduled to be 6 months after, to make sure all is well, and then to decide if an operation is necessary. Thank you all for praying for her! :D I want to thank God for controlling her situation and I have faith that He will heal her of the cyst entirely before the next examination. :)

Second piece of good news is that night, while I was chatting with my God-mom (which is my mom's sister), our talk got drifted to my relationship with God. Though she is a staunch buddhist, even atheist in some sense, whatever questions she popped me I was able to share with her greater insight about my faith. It's a huge step for me, for it's the first time I really tried to share with her. I want to thank God for this opportunity to start reaching out to my family members. :)

Last and final piece of good news is that the company that wanted to hire me had confirmed the details! I had also agreed to make the move, as I analysed that it presents much more opportunities to learn than what I'm involved in at the moment. Though I can foresee that I may become very busy, I know I can trust God for His guidance in every area of my life. For our Lord will prepare us for whatever challenges that He places in front of us, is it not? ;) I really want to thank God for this career opportunity. :)

At last, no one can never thank God enough. I believe each of us has many things to thank God for, for whenever He gives us strength to overcome when we're weak, and He provides for our every need. Trust in the Lord, ask, and be blessed.

May God bless and watch over every one of us in the upcoming week. :)

In Whose Hands?

Hi people

Its been a really busy week for all of us isn't it? (As if there were ever a week that we were not busy. Haha) Yup. I am too, with a lab report to complete, a proposal to submit, tutorials to do and quizzes to study, makes me a little tired and worn out. But hey, I received this mail from my mom and I thought that I would share this small but beautiful truth from God with you guys. Hope you would take a minute to read through it!

Hands

A basketball in my hand is worth about $20.
A basketball in Michael Jordan's hand is worth $33 million.
It depends whose hands it's in.

A baseball in my hand is worth $6.
A baseball in Roger Clemens hands is worth $4.75 million.
It depends whose hands it's in.

A tennis racket is useless in my hands.
A tennis racket is worth millions in Roger Fenderer's hands.
It depends whose hands it's in.

A rod in my hands will chase away an angry dog.
A rod in Moses' hands will part the mighty sea.
It depends whose hands it's in.

A slingshot in my hands is a kid's toy.
A slingshot in David's hands is a mighty weapon.
It depends whose hands it's in.

5 loaves and 2 fishes in my hands is just a couple of fish sandwiches.
5 loaves and 2 fishes in Jesus' hands will feed thousands.
It depends whose hands it's in.

Nails in my hands might only produce a simple chair.
Nails in Jesus Christ's hands will bring salvation to the entire human race.
It depends whose hands it's in.

So put your worries, your concerns, your hopes, your fears, your anxiety, your burdens, your dreams, your relationship, your families and everything you hold dear in God's hands because,
It depends whose hands it's in.

Now that the gift of salvation is in YOUR hands,
What will you do with it?

First Post (Better Late than Never hee)

Yep yep, first post!

Don't really go online much so...... took me a bit long to come on the blog but I made it! Woohoo!

I just spent the 1st 10 mins like looking around. Very nice! Hmm... I wonder if we can add our cell name to the main blog page or something? Sorry ah not very IT savvy so not very sure of that kinda stuff.

Since it's my first post, wanna share something in relation to our beautiful post name: "In Faith with Love".
Paul described the Christians in Colosseus in this way:
"We have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all the saints— the faith and love that spring from the hope that is stored up for you in heaven and that you have already heard about in the word of truth, the gospel" Colossians 1:4-5

Since we have the same eternal hope that is beyond our lives on earth when we believe in the same words of truth, the gospel, let's strive to be like the Christians in Colosseus! Full of love for our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ and faith in our Lord Christ Jesus!

Yep, yep. Thanks for setting up the blog Lionel!

First things first

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours
in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 cups of
coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in
front of him.

When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large, empty
mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked
the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and put them into the
jar. He shook the jar lightly.

The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then
asked the students again if the jar was full and they agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar.
Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if
the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous "yes."

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table
and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the
empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

"Now," said the professor, as the laughter subsided, "I want you to
recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the
important things-your God, family, your children, your health, your
friends, and your favorite passions--things that if everything else
was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter to you like your job, your studies,
your house, and your car.

The sand is everything else--the small stuff.

If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no
room for the pebbles or the golf balls.

The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the
small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are
important to you.

Take care of the golf balls first--the things that really matter. Set
your priorities. The rest is just sand."

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee
represented.

The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you
that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a
couple of cups of coffee with a friend."

Have a great day everyone! ^^,

Ephesians 5:22-33 (NIV)
Wives and Husbands

22 Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. 28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church - 30 for we are members of his body. 31 "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh." 32 This is a profound mystery - but I am talking about Christ and the church. 33 However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

30 Aug 07: Prayer Items

The purpose of posting these prayer items here is to provide members who had missed cell group meeting, items to pray for each other. Additionally, I found that in order to be a prayer warrior for God, the best is to pray unceasingly! If you ever run out of things to pray, this blog will be the best repository! ;)

I'm not too sure if all of you are ok with what I posted here, because well, it's open to the world! I've also tried to keep each item as general as possible. Feel free to add in the comments any additional prayer items if I missed out, or elaborate any that you felt was too generalised! :P

Please let me know too if I should continue posting these prayer items. I need direction too. :)

No Record Of Our Sins

(View Daily Bread)
Psalm 130 (NIV)
A song of ascents.

1 Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord;
2 O Lord, hear my voice.
Let your ears be attentive
to my cry for mercy.

3 If you, O Lord, kept a record of sins,
O Lord, who could stand?
4 But with you there is forgiveness;
therefore you are feared.

5 I wait for the Lord, my soul waits,
and in his word I put my hope.
6 My soul waits for the Lord
more than watchmen wait for the morning,
more than watchmen wait for the morning.

7 O Israel, put your hope in the Lord,
for with the Lord is unfailing love
and with him is full redemption.
8 He himself will redeem Israel
from all their sins.

Proverbs 30:24-28 (NIV)
24 "Four things on earth are small,
yet they are extremely wise:
25 Ants are creatures of little strength,
yet they store up their food in the summer;
26 coneys are creatures of little power,
yet they make their home in the crags;
27 locusts have no king,
yet they advance together in ranks;
28 a lizard can be caught with the hand,
yet it is found in kings' palaces."

Yak yak yak!

Adriel and Pris requested for a tag board of sort, and there you have it! :D

The chatterbox is located to the right sidebar, right at the bottom. So scroll down all the way and there you will find it!

Using it is simple:
  1. Enter your name in the name field.
  2. Type your message in the field below and click on post.

That should do it!

Enjoy guys~! ;)

Wow....sooo EXciting....

Hi

Many thanks to Lionel for setting up the blog as a ground for all the cell members to share their thoughts and reflections of the week. I am very impressed by the enthusiasm and spontaneity. Let's all keep this going and use this avenue to encourage one another.

Cheers! Yiyi & Min Shiung...=)

A Box For All To Share!

Adriel suggested that we have a place where we can share files. I was thinking, why not! :D

If you look to your right, there's a new box there (literally!), and you can grab any files that are already uploaded.

In order to upload your own files, click on the link Upload More Files in the widget itself, and use the email address infaithwithlove[at]gmail[dot]com to access the box.

haha... ok I created that email account because many web services requires an email, so I was thinking oh well, might as well create one for all of us yeah? :P Not too sure if anyone of you will be really using that email though. haha..

Regarding the password to access the box, please contact me personally. Am not gonna broadcast here for the whole world to see now am I? :D My contact information can be found here.

Cheers and praise God for all these technologies!

New Blog!!

Greatz!

Now with the christening of this new online "fellowship", so looking forward to everybody's contribution. Let this be our fruit of labour and prayerfully believe that it'll touch and change lives of people who aren't even in our group! (As a great testimony from the great blogger Lionel, ^_^).

Feel free to share your views, thoughts, prayers, songs, poems, pictures, tutorial notes, exam papers, engineering journals, C++ source files... sorry.. I got too far off. Yeah, basically everything under the sun/Son! Grinz, alrighty. God Bless you people, and have a victorious week ahead.

In His Love, Adriel.

(P.S: Are we having cell this week?)

Spiritual Decompression

(View Daily Bread)
Mark 1:35-39 (NIV)
Jesus Prays in a Solitary Place

35 Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. 36 Simon and his companions went to look for him, 37 and when they found him, they exclaimed: "Everyone is looking for you!"

38 Jesus replied, "Let us go somewhere else - to the nearby villages - so I can preach there also. That is why I have come." 39 So he traveled throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons.
