Genesis 1:1 (NIV)
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

I shared about the importance of this verse in refuting various false religious views during cell. For the benefit of all, the key points are as follows.
Why is Genesis 1:1 important?
It is important because it refutes the following false religious views:
- Atheism - The theory or believe that God does not exist.
From Scripture, we don't even have to argue whether or not God exist. He simply exist, right from the beginning. - Polytheism - The belief in or worship of more than one god.
From Scripture, we see that there is only one true God. - Materialism - The doctrine that nothing exists except matter and its movements and modifications.
Again, from Scripture, we know that we do not come by accident. There is a Creator, and we are His creation. - Pantheism - A doctrine that identifies god with the universe, or regards the universe as a manifestation of god.
This is a popular belief in Egypt and Greece in the ancient days. From Scripture, we understand that God is the Creator of all things, but He does not manifest Himself in those created things to be worshipped.
